Sanitary Sewer Mainlines

Sanitary sewer mainlines are an essential part of a community's infrastructure, responsible for transporting wastewater from homes, businesses, and industries to treatment facilities. These mainlines need to be properly maintained to ensure the efficient flow of wastewater. Regular activities such as lift station cleaning, root cutting, tap cutting, and deposit reaming are crucial to keep the sanitary sewer mainlines in good working condition. By performing these maintenance tasks, potential blockages and sewer system issues can be prevented, thus contributing to the overall health and functionality of the sewer system.

Jet/Vac

Jet/Vac services feature two main components: high-pressure water jetting and a vacuum system. The water jetting uses a high-pressure hose to send powerful streams of water through the sewer pipes, dislodging debris, grease, roots, and other blockages. As the water breaks up the debris, the vacuum portion of the system immediately follows, sucking up the loosened material and transporting it to a storage tank on the vehicle. This combination of water jetting and vacuum suction ensures that the sewer lines are thoroughly cleaned, preventing clogs and ensuring optimal flow. Jet/vac systems are particularly useful in maintaining and restoring the function of sanitary sewer lines, especially in areas with limited access or challenging conditions.

Lift Station Cleaning

Lift station cleaning is a critical aspect of maintaining the functionality of sanitary sewer mainlines. Lift stations are designed to move wastewater from lower to higher elevations, and regular cleaning is essential to prevent clogs and ensure smooth operation. During the cleaning process, accumulated debris, sediment, and grease are removed from the lift station, allowing it to function efficiently. By scheduling regular lift station cleaning, potential issues such as pump failure and sewer system backups can be minimized, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the sewer infrastructure.

Root Cutting

Root cutting, tap cutting, and deposit reaming are essential maintenance tasks for ensuring the proper functioning of sewer systems. Root cutting involves the removal of invasive roots from sewer pipes, which can cause blockages and damage if left unchecked. Tap cutting is the process of creating or reopening branch connections in sewer lines, ensuring proper flow and preventing backups. Deposit reaming cleaning involves the removal of accumulated deposits and debris from the sewer pipes, allowing for efficient wastewater flow and minimizing the risk of clogs. These maintenance tasks are critical for preserving the integrity and functionality of sewer systems, ultimately contributing to the overall effectiveness of the infrastructure.

Tap Cutting

Sewer pipes from buildings are connected to the main line by creating a hole and inserting a pipe. If the pipe extends too far into the main, it can block proper drainage, a problem known as a protruding tap. To fix this, a protruding tap cutter is used to cut the excess pipe, leaving just a small portion inside the main. This clears the obstruction, allowing normal flow. Once the main line is clear, a water jetter can be used to complete the cleaning process.

Deposit Reaming

Deposit Reaming refers to the removal of accumulated minerals and rust on the inner surfaces of a sewer line. Common minerals such as calcium carbonate and magnesium often contribute to this build-up. If left untreated, scaling can reduce the flow of water through the sewer line.

Maintenance Programs & Sewer Mapping

Maintenance Programs

At JJL, we offer our customers scheduled maintenance programs, on your choice of terms, making sure that your sewer system stays in compliance with your insurance company. This is designed to stay on top of your potential maintenance issues. Along with our services, we provide you typed cleaning logs and state-of-the-art inspection reports so you know where your potential bad lines are located. Contact us to set up a free consultation.

Sewer Mapping

You can depend on JJL for digital mapping using the Diamond Maps Program. Diamond Maps is a simple cloud-based GIS/Mapping application designed to help municipalities and rural utilities map their sewer and water infrastructure and track maintenance. We locate and map underground utilities including manholes, catch basins, sewer laterals, agricultural tile lines, and inlets/outlets for businesses and municipalities. All of these points are collected in survey grade which gives our customers the most accurate data and maps.
